Expanding on the museum pass idea, Mamdani launches the “NYC Culture Pass”—a physical and digital card available to every resident with a library card. The pass provides: free admission to a rotating list of museums and historic sites, “rush” tickets for theater and dance performances, discounts on movie tickets and concert halls, and free registration for workshops at cultural centers. The city subsidizes the institutions for each redemption, and a centralized app helps users discover opportunities.

This creates a unified, simple system for accessing the city’s vast cultural resources, encouraging exploration and breaking down the perception that high culture is only for tourists or the wealthy. “Your library card gets you books. Your Culture Pass gets you everything else,” Mamdani explains. “It’s a declaration that the cultural wealth of this city is a common inheritance, and this is your key to claim it.”
